It’s our second annual Marafun, aaaand they’re off!
The grade one students have begun the amazing feat of running an actual marathon – that’s 42.2 km – over the next three months. (The grade twos will be joining us, as well; seeing as they did it last year, they’re total pros.)
These little legs will be running almost every day, gradually building on their distance and endurance until June 21st when we celebrate the final 2 km run. We started off nice and easy yesterday with a .6 km run – well, perhaps easy is the wrong word. Let’s be honest, there were desperate gasps for air, moans and groans, and many who walked most of the way BUT… really that’s all okay. Lots of learning about hydration, nutrition, pacing, sportsmanship and courage is headed our way.
First graders running a marathon. Seriously, can you even stand it?
Let the run begin.
