All Aboard

I never watch hockey.  I kind of couldn’t care less.  However, now that our Vancouver Canucks are in the playoffs and won their first game against the Chicago Blackhawks last night, I’m riding shotgun on the bandwagon.

I can see how diehard hockey fans get irritated with fickletons like myself. But there’s a reason why I wear my Dad’s Canuck’s jersey and cheer when we score and high-five strangers…

Because it’s FUN.

So what if I don’t know the players’ names or understand the offside rule? It’s about feeling like we’re all on the same team, right?

I notice it with my class too.  There are a fair number of Canucks fans already, but with our fun morning banter and random fist-pumping, all the students want in on the action. Well, fun is good – but fun learning is always better.  Which is why we took the opportunity to write some letters. Although we write everyday, pencils always seem to write furiously when there’s such a purpose.

Here’s what some of them had to say:

Make sure you aim at the top corner on the blocker side… I don’t even know what that means but it sounds like good advice.

When the other goalie is not looking, shoot it and be careful of the other team.

Dear Roberto… Just like what his friends call him!

The best invented spelling of “Canucks” ever.

This is a plan:  Ok, you go close to the post and just shoot it in the net. Brilliant. These Canucks could learn a thing or two.

Good luck, Vancouver Canucks and thank you for the stickers and player cards that were mailed to us in return.

We’ll be cheering you on to the championship.

  1. I for all time emailed this webpage post page to all my friends,
for the reason that if like to read it afterward my friends will
    too.
