A penny for our thoughts

Engagement.  You know – hunched over, the furrowed brow, not hearing someone call your name, twenty minutes passing as if they were two.  That was us yesterday afternoon as we learned more about “Matter”.

We put the cohesion of water molecules to the test by investigating how many water droplets can fit on a penny before it overflows.

Sometimes it’s neat just to sit back and watch their wheels turn.  Each and every one of them was engaged – a jackpot for any teacher.  And not a single video game in sight thankyouverymuch.  It was a pretty magical thing.

In case you’re wondering, our predictions were off by a long shot.  One pair of students was able to fit 46.
