Stars and Stamps
I’m a sucker for kid letters. Especially when kids write them of their volition. This one is particularly sweet. At the end of the day, while everyone had some free time to play, Justin decided to head over to the Art Center to finish a letter he had been working on all week. He’d come up to me every so often asking for a “special” piece of paper or a carefully placed staple – I really didn’t know what he was up to until I saw this:
Apparently, it’s for someone named iCarly and her sidekick Sam, who are television personalities….? (I have no idea who she is; a sad realization that I no longer have my finger on the pulse of children’s popular culture.)
He was soooo proud of his letter – can’t you tell by his carefully chosen colour palette of felt pens? It truly warmed my heart and I told him I’d help him mail it. That, iCarly better write him back. (Or else I just may just have to work some teacher magic and do it for her.)
In a world of iCarly and ipad and every other i-screen that happens to be hijacking kids’ minds these days, I’m so glad that Justin found value in a good ol’ pen and paper to express himself.
Way to go, Justin. You may not be on TV, but you’re a star in my books.
