October Author Study: Leo Lionni

As October draws to an close, we wrap up our second author study of the school year. Leo Lionni is one of my favourite children’s authors and I felt pretty darn lucky that I got to to introduce some of his books to the kids.

Here are a few of our favourites:

Little blue and little yellow are best friends. What happens when they hug each other? Why, they turn green of course!

I adore Frederick.  You think he’s this lazy, little guy but it’s his poetic ways that save the others from the dark and dreary days of winter.  I just love that he looks like he’s giving you a big eye roll on each page.

Don’t eat me. I am an inchworm. I am useful. I measure things. Whew!  All clear – until that is, he’s asked to measure a nightingale’s song.

And this one is my absolute favourite.  These little frogs befriend a baby alligator and think it’s a chicken. Gets me every time.
