September Author Study: Eric Carle

There are so many wonderful children’s authors, I thought I’d try featuring one every month, this year.  Doing so will enable my class to hold a magnifying glass up to a series of works and get a better understanding about the craft of writing narratives.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been enjoying the stories of Eric Carle.  The pages in his books are filled with vibrant pictures and simple, patterned stories about nature.  It’s no wonder the kids have quickly become so familiar with his style.

We were recently inspired to spend an afternoon making our own Carle-like collages. It was tricky “drawing with scissors” but the kids got the hang of it and they ended up creating some lovely pieces.  Watch out Mr. Carle, looks like you’ve got some competition.

Thanks, Efe and Jasjit!
